Peach Crisp Recipe

Almost everyone loves peach crisps, especially during summers, when you get fresh and ripe peaches. It has a crumb topping and a juicy fruit mixture at the base. Apart from peaches, many other ingredients are used to make peach crisps. You may also use other ingredients of your choice to alter the taste in this dessert recipe. Hence, there are many versions of peach crisp recipes, which vary as per the ingredients. However, the following one is one among the basic and simple versions.Peach Crisp With OatsIngredients
Sliced peaches (peeled and pitted) – 5 cups
All-purpose flour – 4 tbsp
Cooking oatmeal – ½ cup
Brown sugar, packed – ¾ cup
Butter – ¼ cup
Granola sweetened with honey – ½ cup
Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
Nutmeg powder – ½ tsp
Cinnamon powder – 1 tsp
Method
You have to start with the preparation of the base, that includes the peach slices. Once the base is made, prepare the topping mixture and pour over the base. Take a large bowl and mix the ingredients for the base. This includes peach slices, one tablespoon of flour (the remaining flour is meant for the topping) and ½ cup of sweetened granola, ¼ cup of brown sugar (remaining ½ cup is for topping) and lemon juice. Some people also like to add two tablespoons of whiskey to this mixture.
Toss the above said ingredients thoroughly and arrange it in a baking dish, which is already greased. After this, you can prepare the topping mixture with the remaining ingredients.
Put the remaining ingredients in a medium bowl. The ingredients include ½ cup of oatmeal, ½ cup of brown sugar, three tablespoons of all-purpose flour, half teaspoon of nutmeg powder and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder, and mix them well.
If you have a food processor, you can blend the ingredients and once they are combined well, add butter gradually. If you are mixing the ingredients manually, combine all items, except butter, with a pastry blender and then add the butter. The mixture must be like a coarse meal, once the butter gets blended well. Now, your topping part is also ready.
Now, you have to spread the mixture meant for topping over the base made of peach slices kept in the greased baking dish. It should be spread evenly over the peach slices.
Now you are ready for the last part in the making of peach crisp recipe. Place the baking dish with ingredients inside the oven, which is preheated to 350 °F. Bake it for around forty-five minutes or until the topping becomes golden brown. Some people cover the dish with foil and bake it for around fifteen minutes in moderate temperature and then remove the foil for further baking, for around thirty to forty minutes.
Once you remove the baked peach crisp from the oven, let it cool for at least twenty minutes. Now, your peach crisp with oats and granola is ready and you can serve it warm with whipped cream, yogurt or vanilla ice cream.
You may also add chopped pecans or raisins for the topping portion. Oatmeal can be substituted or added with cookie crumbs. A whole range of products can be added to this recipe, as per your taste. You can also add some dried fruits and nuts or toffee in the topping. Fruits like apples, blackberries and blueberries can be added to the peach slices, which form the base of the crisp. You can also make canned peach crisp recipe by replacing fresh peach slices with canned ones. In case of canned peaches, you have to drain them well and cut down the sugar content, as canned peaches contain extra sugar.
You can add ingredients as per your liking, but, see to it that such things do not spoil the taste of the peach crisp. Anything you add must have a compatible flavor, which enhances or gels with the flavor of the peach crisp. Now, you can try your hand at making peach crisp recipe and enjoy the exquisite taste.
